Hot! Studying TESL in Malaysia

There are several public and private institutions of higher learning in Malaysia that offer TESL as a learning programme apart from taking the course of study via teacher training institutes nationwide.

The standard minimum requirements for pursuing a TESL degree is a good credit in SPM English (perferably B3 and above), and a Band 4 and above for MUET, apart from the compulsory credits for Bahasa Melayu (SPM) and Pengajian Am (STPM). You need to demonstrate good proficiency in the English language with passion for teaching.

We have listed them in the following list. We’ll be posting more details on the programme offered in each of the institutions from time to time and if you have information you would like to share, feel free to email us.

    • There’s a good B. Ed TESL program in University Selangor (UNISEL). (The University has changed it’s name from Universti Industri Selangor to Universiti Selangor). The lecturers are qualified, experienced and helpful. PTPTN is available for qualified students. Check http://www.unisel.edu.my or call Faculty of Education and Social Sciences UNISEL at 03-32805126. Worth trying. Cheers.

If she cannot get a place in a government university, what are the reputable private calleges that offer this course? How much will it cost for a degreeprogramme privately? Will she be able to get a job easily with the Minsitry of Education? What are the other areas of employment that she can apply? Thank you.G.Vijayakumar.

  19. Hi ..

I am currently doing TESL in IIUM. Well, as far as I know, the course is open to anybody, even you are not from the university’s matriculation program.I was from the UiTM Asasi TESL and I continue my B.Ed in IIUM. To do TESL in most public universities offering the course in Malaysia, one need to get at least a 2.75 CGPA in their Diploma or any Asasi program. STPM leavers can also apply through MOHE. Applicants also need at least a band 4 in their MUET. Surely, like other B.Ed program, we need to go for an interview, MEDSI. When all requirements are met, Insya-Allah, you’ll find yourself dealing with grammars, readings and writings, listening and speaking, lesson plans, teaching materials, etc in no time for 8 semesters… hehehe … :D ;d

  21. Can an ex pre-law(asasi undang-undang) student from UITM continue their study in TESL? if so, what are the requirements beside getting a BAND 4 in MUET? The minimum CGPA required for pre law students to enter this TESL programme?

  22. Yes, i want to know.. errmmm how bout private ins? could you give a list of it as well…? i studied diploma in tesl and want to cont degree…
    any suggestion?
